Women: Just Beautiful

I believe everyone should dance. Also when you think or even know you can’t dance. Dancing is what people call moving. Moving your body which you have started doing from the moment you came to this world! Moving on the tunes of life. It relaxes, it winds you up, it energizes. Find you’re strengts by moving. Know what your arm can do and what potention can be found in your legs. We are living in a society where it is all about the mind. From a holistic point of view we are all mind, body and soul. Get these three working with each other in stead of neglecting parts of you.

This is the 8th and last blog in a serie of blogs about our experiences in Brazil, where we spent 5 weeks this year. The reason for our trip was capoeira. My partner teaches capoeira in the Hague. His capoeira name is Vitamina. He represents Grupo Engenho, a Brazilian capoeira group, in the Netherlands.

Taking risks…
…is scary, but when you want something really bad than sometimes it’s good to just do it. Like I did when I took this photo. Allright it is a small risk compared to so many other risks you can take, I know, but let’s start small. The scenary above was overwhelming to me and I wanted to share it with people at home. It felt as if I wasn’t there, but in fact I was there and surrounded by busses packed with people wanting to get home, the smell of gasoline and people on the bridge walking away and to a mall. Luckily no one grabbed the camera and I have an image/experience to share.

This is the seventh blog in a serie of blogs about our experiences in Brazil, where we spent 5 weeks this year. The reason for our trip was capoeira. My partner teaches capoeira in the Hague. Holidays to relax and holidays…
…to ‘enjoy’ stress of many bad luck experiences.
What do you think of starting holidays with 3 weeks of having the flu?
Afterwards an infection in my right eye!
We got skimmed…
Day after day, night after night, an invasion of two types of musquitos
My boyfriend needed an operation because of hernia’s…

Recently I took a look at our holiday pictures and I was happy to notice that positive memory’s came up. How much fun we had besides all the bad luck!

You can take a look at the pictures right here.

This is the sixth blog in a serie of blogs about our experiences in Brazil, where we spent 5 weeks this year. The reason for our trip was capoeira. My partner teaches capoeira in the Hague. His capoeira name is Vitamina. He represents Grupo Engenho, a Brazilian capoeira group, in the Netherlands.

Play capoeira
Everyone invited me to play capoeira. I must admit that it was quite intimidating to see 9 year olds playing capoeira with already 6 years of experience. How would I fit in? How could I move and defend myself in the roda (the circle of people in which you play capoeira)? No way, I thought, I will keep myself on the down low, but they didn’t let me. Since I came all the way from the Netherlands to learn how to play capoeira I was CHALLENGED to play. Challengend by especially one person. One guy who gave me a very nasty LOOK. A look which told me that he knew that I was nervous and scared to play. My argument of being tired didn’t count. He continued giving me this look. Ieksssss! I felt provoked by his words and attitude and decided to overcome my fear of playing.

Samba de Roda
After the capoeira roda the teacher often gave a sign to create a samba de roda. The circle became smaller and one couple could do their samba dance while the others were singing, clapping and watching. You could replace someone in the circle just by pushing or teasing the person away from the circle. That was fun to watch, but, yes, also in the samba de roda I was challenged to dance. Before I could think or say ‘no’ I was already standing in the circle trying to dance the samba. It seems that people in capoeira are fearless. Or at least they learned to be fearless!

Speak up at Birthday de Roda
With my provocative coaching background I was triggered by the way people interact within capoeira. The invitations to play in the roda, dancing in the samba de roda and speak up after a birthday celebration. All very provocative to me! There was a speech from Mestre Grandao and everyone got a chance to say something to the birthday guy. At some point Mestre Grandao looked at me and asked in a playfull way: so would you like to say something? What? Me giving speeches in Portuguese? Not after 3 weeks. Give me some more time please! :)

This is the fifth blog in a serie of blogs about our experiences in Brazil, where we spent 5 weeks this year. The reason for our trip was capoeira. My partner teaches capoeira in the Hague. His capoeira name is Vitamina. He represents Grupo Engenho, a Brazilian capoeira group, in the Netherlands.

Thoughts rule the Mind
Travelling takes us to new experiences. Not only travelling, but life itself takes us to new experiences. As sensitive as I am, new experiences are giving me lots of food for thought. How much would someone, who sells cheese on the beach earn, when he sells all his cheese during the day? Why does someone who doesn’t have enough money to do grocery shopping have 150 tv channels to choose from? Where will this street smart capoeira guy of 18 years end up? Sometimes all of these thoughts rule my head. That’s an awfull feeling, but the solution is close.

A Gift for your Thougths
Off course talking to people helps, but what also helps for me is WRITING. Writing is definitely a gift for my thoughts and perhaps also for yours. Give it a go and let me know if it works for you!

Finding Strength in Beauty
The photo above got me through the downs of our trip! One glance at this photo and immediately I feel calm in mind and heart. Recently I read in a magazine about psychology that a photo of a savanna on your desktop has a calming effect on your state of mind. A savanna repesents freedom and safety at the same time. Other images of nature have a similar effect. Like images of much green and water. Now this photo welcomes me when I open my laptop.

Julia Child, one of my examples in Life
On the photo I am in Jaua reading the book ‘My Life in France’. This book tells the story of Julia Child, an American woman who emigrated to France in 1948 and wrote many bestsellers about French cooking. She even appeared on tv teaching about the French cuisine. Her passion for food is remarkable. One day she decided to master baking a French bread roll. At that time she lived in the US and after many, many tries in which she involved her husband as well, they were left with a lot of bread loafs, but it wasn’t close to the taste of bread she was used to in France. Together they flew to France, to learn how to bake French bread with one of the topchefs of this country. Her husband discovered which utensil they needed to add to an American oven and voila, bon apetit!! They made it possible for Americans to bake French bread.

Leading a Passionate Life
The way she cooks, is definitely the way I coach! She was constantly learning and developing herself as a cook and in the meantime teaching others and spreading her cooking wisdom. I do to! And what I loved about her was her attitude towards life by the time she reached 80. Her curiousity, eagerness and enthusiasm for cooking and everything which is linked to cooking was as alive as when she started her cooking madness at the age of 37! Many times, I have repeated that I will be coaching my entire life. So there you have it, a lot of resemblance with this remarkable Julia Child.

Discover your Passion by coincidence
Julia discovered her passion by coincidence. Was it coincidence? She wasn’t looking, but life led her to good food. Through Paul, her husband, she got to know good food and good wine. He introduced her to wonderful French cuisine. At first she wanted to take good care of him by cooking great meals! Her playfullness and childlike curiousity developed her into a cook to remember.

I believe that a big element of passion is that you love what you do and that what you do make others happy!

FilmTip: there is a movie about the life of Julia Child, watch the trailer here.
